Short answer first. Lists of free AI video generators, including the nine-tool roundup this article follows, promise no-watermark video for nothing. Our comparison dataset tells a colder story: across 18 head-to-head comparisons covering 15 AI video tools, not one tool is listed at $0, and exactly one verdict in the whole category describes a free tier at all. Free, in AI video, is a trial with better marketing.
The category, counted
| Tool | Listed price in our data | Free tier in our data |
|---|---|---|
| VEED.io | $12 | None recorded |
| Vidnoz | $13.50 | Free tier described as generous (vs HeyGen) |
| Opus Clip | $15 | None recorded |
| Runway | $15 | None recorded |
| InVideo | $20 | None recorded |
| Elai.io | $23 | None recorded |
| Descript | $24 | None recorded |
| Kapwing | $24 | None recorded |
| Fliki | $28 | None recorded |
| HeyGen, Lumen5, Pictory, Quso.ai, Synthesia | $29 each | None recorded |
| Colossyan | $59 | None recorded |
The cheapest listed door into the category is VEED.io at $12. The one free-tier mention belongs to Vidnoz, whose verdict against HeyGen credits it with a generous free tier for casual users and the best-for line aimed at beginners making free or cheap avatar videos; its listed price for anything beyond that tier is $13.50. Every other tool in the set, from Runway at $15 to Colossyan at $59, records no free tier in our data. Our earlier video pricing comparison ranks the same field on price; this page is the free cut of it, and the free cut is nearly empty. The FreeTier Finder runs the same check live across all 210 comparisons on this site.
What free actually buys
The pattern matches the image category on this site, where the honest answer was also that no free tier is recorded. A free tier in video is a sampling mechanism: a few exports, a watermark decision deferred, and the paid wall placed exactly where regular use begins. Budget from the table instead: $12 to $15 a month is the real entry price for the tools our data compares, and $29 is where the crowded middle of the field sits, five tools deep.
