Download guides usually list apps. This one lists categories, because in 2026 the category is the decision: the same need (an agent, a voice tool, a vision checker) has a dozen new suppliers, and the counts in our 513 startup database show where the choice is deep and where it is thin. Start where the cohort is building.
1. Start with the two big shelves
Vertical AI (149 startups) and agents (137) hold more than half the cohort. Whatever your job, the tool that does it inside your industry's workflow is probably in one of these two. Use the platform search by industry and job first; try the established equivalents in the FreeTier Finder when you want a free tier checked before you pay anyone.
| Category | Startups in the 2026 database |

| AI Voice and Audio Startups | 17 |
| AI Vision Startups | 10 |
| AI Data Startups | 8 |

2. Then the builder shelves
Devtools (58) if you ship software, infrastructure (29) and security (25) if you run it. These categories reward comparison: adjacent tools differ in one integration or one pricing line, and the company pages here print founders, batch and headquarters so the shortlist writes itself.
3. Finish with the quiet shelves
Robotics (51), voice and audio (17), vision (10) and data (8) are small enough to read completely. That is their advantage: in a 10 company category you can evaluate every serious option in an afternoon, a claim no app store search page will ever make for you.
4. The install order, condensed
Week one: agents and your industry's vertical tools, trialled on one real task each. Week two: the builder shelves if they apply to you. Week three: one quiet shelf read in full, because a 10 company category is a gift. Week four: delete everything that did not earn a second open, and write down why. The guide is the database; the discipline is yours.
Downloading is the easy part; this guide exists because choosing is not. If you take one habit from this page, take the category habit: name the shelf before you name the app, check the shelf depth in the database, and only then compare the two or three finalists on their company pages.
