Android is the better discovery phone: cheaper data, easier sideloading of beta builds, and notifications you can actually tune. The catch is volume. With 513 new AI startups in the 2026 cohort alone, discovery on Android works only if the apps filter harder than they shout. Here is the setup that works, in install order.

1. Start with the database, not the feed

Install a tracker with real search first. The platform search behind this site covers all 513 startups by name, founder, category and city, and our FreeTier Finder does the same job for established tools and their free tiers. On Android, pin both to the home screen as web apps: zero storage, always current.

2. Add launch alerts, category by category

Turn on alerts for at most three categories. The 2026 counts argue for agents (137), vertical AI (149) and one personal pick: devtools (58) if you build, robotics (51) if you invest, voice and audio (17) if you want a quiet feed. Android's per app notification channels make this granular; use them.

3. Keep a reading queue, not a folder of installs

Discovery is not installing. Save startups to a watchlist inside the tracker, try one tool a week properly, and delete ruthlessly. The database remembers the other 512 for you. That discipline is the whole difference between a discovery habit and a hoarding habit.

4. The two minute weekly check

Once a week: open alerts, scan the newest batch additions, check the revenue board. In our data that is a handful of names most weeks, with spikes at batch launches (Summer 2026 dropped 173 AI startups at once). Two minutes, no doomscroll.

5. Battery and data manners

Discovery apps love background refresh, and Android will let them eat your battery if you do not set boundaries. Restrict background data for anything that is not your alert app, let the tracker and the Finder run as web apps (they update when opened, which is when you care), and schedule the weekly check instead of grazing. A discovery habit that respects the phone survives; one that drains it gets uninstalled by Friday.
